Field experience in technical assistance, policy consultation, qualitative/quantitative research, or program evaluation is preferred.
Preference will be given to applicants with: (1) skills in scientific research design and implementation, project management, business development & proposal writing, professional training and product development, and (2) excellent written and oral communication skills along with an ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team-based environment. Travel (including overnight and commercial airline travel) is also required.

Research and Evaluation - Research Associate

OSITION DESCRIPTION: The Research and Evaluation position requires that the successful applicant will engage in all aspects of research and evaluation, provide oversight to various projects and collaborate with other staff.  Activities will include collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; preparing reports; developing research and evaluation proposals; planning protocols; managing projects; and securing new business funding. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Data Collection

  • Identifies or designs appropriate instrumentation (e.g., surveys, interview protocols, observation protocols, knowledge assessments) for responding to research and evaluation questions.
  • Collects quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate techniques to ensure reliability and validity.
  • Organizes and conducts site visits involving multiple data collection methods.
  • Assists project managers in preparing project submissions and materials for Institutional Review Board review, and follows IRB protocols.

 2) Data Organization

  • Formats databases to ensure the availability of useable data.
  • Oversees support staff in data entry using formatted databases.

 3) Data Analysis

  • Analyzes basic descriptive and inferential quantitative analyses.
  • Assists project managers with more complex analyses or performs such analyses using pre-specified data analysis plans.
  • Analyzes qualitative data with general guidelines from project managers.

 4) Proposal and Report Writing

  • Assists with writing proposals, research and evaluation plans and reports, literature reviews and papers, presentations, and articles for various audiences.
  • Follows organization's Quality Assurance protocols.

 5) Project Management

  • Implements project plans, often for multiple projects.
  • Maintains timelines for multiple projects.
  • Works with higher-level staff, assistants, and support staff to ensure efficient completion of tasks.

 6) Professional Development

  • Participates in professional development opportunities that increase awareness, knowledge, and skills relevant to the job.
  • Shares knowledge gained from professional development experiences with peers and assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or higher in education, social sciences, public policy and/or related area; formal course work in research methodology required.
  • Research experience and demonstrated data collection skills (e.g., interviewing, classroom observation, focus group moderation, and surveying).
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills required.
  • Knowledge of data organization and analysis software for storing, analyzing, and reporting qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and coordinate with colleagues at varying organizational levels.
