Copyright Laws in Design
- Subject Area: Computer Science
- Grade Level: 9-12
- Standards:
The student is expected to:
- TEKS 126.22 (c)(3)
(A) discuss copyright laws/issues and model ethical acquisition and use
of digital information, citing sources using established methods;
- TEKS 126.22 (c)(4)
(A) use local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs),
including the Internet and intranet, in research and resource sharing; and
(B) construct appropriate electronic search strategies in the acquisition of
information including keyword and Boolean search strategies;
- TEKS 126.22 (c)(7)
(A) apply problem-solving strategies such as design specifications, modular
top-down design, step-wise refinement, or algorithm development.
- Learning Objectives:
In this activity, the learner will use the Internet to research the topic of
copyright laws as they pertain to the design of a Web site. The learner will
access in formation using LANs and WANs, limiting the searach with Boolean
operators. The learner will verify information by locating two sources.
- Resources:
- Design of Activities:
Attention "Copyright Officer":
- Your next assignment is to research copyright laws in the State of Texas
as they pertain to designing a Web site. You will need to practice your
research skills by narrowing your search and checking to see that your
findings are validated by two sources. Please report your finding to "Deputy
Copyright Chief".
- Assessment:
Students will be evaluated individually by submitting a typed document. A
5-point rubric will be used to evaluate the writing and the research
results.
- Evaluation:
- Were the students able to find the needed information about copyright
laws?
- Did the students find additional Web sites that would better suit the
assignment's goals?
